What About Other Religions? Which Ones Are True and Which Are False?

WHAT ABOUT OTHER RELIGIONS?

There are many religions in the world. They do not all teach the same thing. In fact, many of them contradict each other. So, they can't all be true and it cannot be said that each is a different path to God. What are we to say about all those other religions compared to Christianity? To get to the point, all other religions besides Christianity are false.

The testimony of Jesus Christ

If Jesus is who He said He is, God in flesh, then whatever He says is authoritative and true. He said that He is the way the truth and the life and that nobody comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). Right there we see that any other way, according to Jesus, is not true.

The testimony of witnesses

Besides the testimony of Jesus regarding Himself, other people who saw, interacted with and encountered Him as the risen Saviour have given testimonies of His divinity. All of their declarations cannot all be wrong at the same time. One such outstanding person is Paul who wrote much of the epistles of the New Testament. In regard to this testimony, the book of 1 Timothy 2:5-6 records that Paul while writing to Timothy clearly testifies: "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time" (NIV). In saying Jesus is very much the "...one mediator between God and mankind,..." Paul consolidates what we have just discussed above - Jesus is the way, the truth and the life - the ONLY door to GOD Almighty . This Scripture pretty much corroborates what Jesus Christ testified about Himself.

The conclusion of the matter

Christianity bases its truth and its doctrine on the word of God, the Bible. In the Word of God, Jesus claims to be the only way. Since He performed many miracles, raised people from the the dead, commanded a storm to be still and it obeyed, healed diseases, and rose from the dead, then we are forced to face the reality of His words. Is what He said true or not? Either Jesus is a liar, a lunatic, or He is Lord. No one else in history, except Jesus, has fulfilled detailed prophecies, performed many miracles before eyewitnesses, and risen from the dead. Jesus is unique.

Those of us who are Christians, have trusted what Christ has said. We believe in what He said and did. Like it or not, Jesus is the one who said He is the only way. It is not the Christians who are being "narrow-minded." It is Jesus. Therefore, to say that other religions can be true means that Jesus is false. To say that there are other ways to God, also means that Jesus is false. This is what it comes down to. Either Jesus is who He said He is and what He said is true, or He is false. This is the choice you must make: To trust what He said, or reject His words.

  1. Thank you for this short but powerful article. I have often asked myself, what of people in other religions? Does it mean they are all going to be damned? And I have always known this quotation of Christ being the way, the truth and the life; but I never really put them both together. Silly me! Cheers!

  2. So do you mean your religion is the only true one? Is that not hate speech? Are you wiser than all the great wise men, philosophers and prophets throughout history who communicated with God through various means and ways, and came up with the different and varied religions?

Let me tell you something important...you probably do not know.

God is ONE and He has always given man the same message throughout all the ages BUT the different men to whom these messages were given formed different religions to deliver their messages, and thus as time went on, we began to have very many different religions that were, rather seemed to be, varied. BUT they all lead to the same GOD. The ONE message. They all lead to ONE GOD.

So, your religion alone cannot be the only true one. All religions lead to God!

    1. Hello, I appreciate your reasoning and point of view. However, I can assure you that I have uttered no hate speech neither do I hate anyone. Let's look at your questions and assertions.

Do I mean my religion is the only true one? No, of course not, I never said so. It was Jesus the Anointed One, the Messiah who said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through Me". So I didn't say this, Jesus said it. It follows that the ONLY way to God is not through any religion; it is only through Jesus Christ, by belief in Him alone. But it so happens that the only religion that has shown unwavering faith in Jesus as Saviour and the way to God is Christianity.

Are you wiser than all the great men you mentioned? To be honest, I do NOT want to be wiser than anyone. I am content the way I am, except that I am always keen to know God more through the living letters of the Holy Scriptures. And the Scriptures confirm what I said above.

You said, "God has always given man the same message throughout all the ages...All religions lead to God!" Is this really true? If the same God is giving the same message throughout time, does it not seem curious and confusing that each and every man has come up with different messages that do NOT relate to each other at all? For example, NONE of the many religions on earth, not one, believes that Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth in the flesh, finished God's saving work through His death on the cross, and now saves all men simply by faith and belief in Him. Do you know any such religion outside Christianity? None, not even one! So it definitely isn't the same God of Christianity who gave all these conflicting messages to different men. The only sure message that came from the Almighty God, the Ancient of Days, is the message that came in and by and through Jesus Christ, His only Begotten Son.
