There Is A Miracle Whenever You Do

“Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it - John 2: 7-8. It is wonderful to see folks do all sorts of extraordinary acts. In most cases, transforming a seemingly 'hopeless' situation into that of great hope and joy. Such acts simply grab my attention. Such is the kind of situation found in the beginning chapters of the book of the loving disciple John. The context – an ancient Jewish wedding, and the crisis – lack of wine for the guests.

Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

Wedding in Cana of Galilee: Water Turned into Wine

Jesus and his disciples are invited to a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and sometime during the wedding feast, the miracle wonder begins.

Jesus, who is one of the guests, instructs the servants to fill the water jars that were used for ceremonial washing. And they did so. Then He asked them to fetch some of that water to the banquet host. And, unbelievably, they did so.

And when the host tasted it, he found it as much better wine than the one served earlier! His testimony says so much:
When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” - John 2: 9-10.

Well, it really is a miracle; no doubt about that.

The transformation of water into wine at the Marriage ceremony at Cana is the first recorded miracle of the Lord Jesus in the Gospel account of John. However, there is something else much greater (than just the miracle) to it!

Lessons for Us in this miracle

This no doubt is a great miracle, and undoubtedly, the first of the many miracles of our Lord Jesus. However, for us, the pertinent question here is: when did this miracle happen?

And the answer is as pertinent as the question: When they did so!

Imagine the servants filling the jars with water and then taking a sample to the host for tasting, and all the while knowing that there is no wine – it is just audacious! And somewhere between the ‘filling’ and the ‘tasting’, the miracle happened!

Have you got the point here? This particular incident points out what is essential in our everyday christian lives today.

It gives us knowledge and helps us understand the deep workings of God's miracles.

The simple basic truth is that miracles do not and would not simply happen. True, you and I cannot do miracles.

However, my brethren, consider this other simple truth: the miracle at Cana happened only because they did what the Lord Jesus instructed them to do. They did so!

They did not consider the foolishness of taking jars filled with water to the wedding host to taste for wine. They did not begin to rationalize the 'foolish' orders given to them. They did not argue nor consider how foolish they would appear in front of everyone.

No! They did not do those things! They simply did what the Lord instructed, without questions. They obeyed. They did so!

It is only when we enter into the ‘they did so’ mode that miracles happen!

They did so – whatever Jesus said. When you DO what He instructs you to do, the miracles begin to descend on you! Praise the Lord Jesus forever!

Daily Bible Verse for Meditation

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. - Deuteronomy 28:1-3
