"Abraham ...believed God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did" - Romans 4: 16,17. Put briefly, Abraham believed that God could do the impossible.

This is an incredible statement from the Scriptures.

Abraham believed that God could do the impossible, things that according to our limited experience cannot happen.

The Bible contains numerous reports of miracles.

A great nation walked through the Red Sea on dry land, while walls of water piled up on the right hand and on the left.

For a whole day, the sun remained in the sky and did not set because a nation who chose to believe God had to win a battle.

The prophet Jonah, to quote a third example of a miraculous report from the Holy Bible, was swallowed by a great fish and spewed out three days later on to the land unharmed.

Many refuse to believe these things; as thinking people they find that they go too far. In doing so, they have expressed their judgement of the credibility of the Holy Scriptures.

In their opinion it is not worth any further occupation on their part.

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. - Romans 4:16-17

We must however consider one thing: God does not remove these stumbling blocks for man's intellect.

Abraham was not so simple-minded. He had become acquainted with our great God personally.

If the Almighty, Eternal God whom he knew, is beyound man's comprehension, not subject to any limitations and infinitely wise, then His dealings must bear the same characteristics.

Witnesses' factual reports of God's extraordinary intervention in the normal course of events, as given in the Holy Bible, indicate the actuyal existence of the almighty, living God.

Any limitation, even if it be solely in experience or thinking, is wholly on man's side.

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham.
