The Living Powerful Word of God

FOR THE WORD OF GOD IS LIVING AND POWERFUL - Hebrews 4: 12

The evangelist Moody relates how some men of high society, members of a prominent club in an American metropolis, were sent gospel tracts by true Christians. One of the tracts was entitled: "Wake up! Meet your God!"

An envelope with this tract was also sent to a man known for his nonchalant, godless life. He was sitting in his office when this letter was handed to him.

"'Wake up! Meet your God!' What ever is this?" he exclaimed on opening the envelope. "Who had the impunity to send me this rubbish?"

Angry with the unknown sender, he stood up to throw the tract into the fire. But at that moment, the idea struck him of sending it to a friend, so as to hear how he would react to the joke.

He put it in an envelope and addressed it to his humorous friend in a disguised handwriting.

The tract was received with a curse on "Christian nonsense".

The addressee was about to tear it up when his eye caught the title: "Wake up! Meet your God!".

Strange! Was it curiosity or what? He started reading, and when he had finished, he was far from tearing it up.

His conscience had been pricked, an arrow from God's quiver had pierced his innermost being. Not long after he was convicted of his sin and sought grace where it could be found: with Jesus Christ.

He then started thinking of his godless friends, and the tract was soon in the post again, this time to another friend. Here, too, the call of God reached the reader's heart.

A lesson for us

As we take decisions daily, let us not be unmindful of the fact that certain of our actions, though irrelevant and irritating to some people, are capable of being mightily and powerfully used by God Almighty for His Own Purposes and in His Own Way.

Let us therefore, always do that which we are led by the Spirit to do, at all times, irrespective of how 'foolhardy' it may seem at the time. Let us obey the Spirit's leading always!

Bible Verse for Meditation
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV)
