The sure path to inner peace and tranquility

"He went on his way rejoicing". - Acts 8:39. He was a man of high position, the finance minister of the queen of Ethiopia. He was successful in his career and enjoyed influence, wealth and respect, in fact all that life could offer him. However, there was obviously something lacking in his heart, so that he sought what was missing.

Was his life, which was spent without fellowship with God, without inner joy and without hope for etenity, not empty afterall? Perhaps a visit to Jerusalem, where God was worshipped, might help.

So he set off. For him, it was no problem; he could afford that long journey.

But neither Jerusalem with its fine temple, the sanctuary, nor superficial services nor the entire religious ritual satisfied his expectations.

Yet God saw that man's longing, and through grace he found salvation. For this purpose God sent His messenger, but above all His Word.

On the way home, the eunuch was reading the prophecy of Isaiah, the part that speaks of the lamb being taken to the slaughter, the lamb on which the chastisement of our peace lay.

Philip, who had been sent by God, heard the man reading in his chariot.

He asked him, "Do you understand what you are reading?"

The eunuch wanted to know the prophet was speaking about. So, Philip preached the gospel of Jesus, and God worked at once in that man's soul.

He listened, heard, believed and found peace!

He became a Christian, witnessed it by being baptized and went on his way rejoicing.

Lessons for us

Inner peace, tranquility and joy

While on earth, we often have lots of positive expectations for ourselves and loved ones - study in the best of school we can afford, eat the best of healthy meals, get to the zenith of our careers the most we can, and on and on the list goes.

Truth is that the wants and needs of the normal man is truly insatiable.

However, life can be filled with unexpected ups and downs, troubles and problems, and bends and twists that we often do not plan for. This is the true fact(s) of life, high today and low tomorrow.

No matter where you find yourself in life today, whether on the high and in the low, it is good you are reading this because it means you still have breath of life in you.

If you are in the low, I also tell you, it does not matter the source of your lowliness - sickness(es), failure(s), disappointment(s), hurt(s), betrayal(s), etc etc of you or a loved one?

It really does not matter what it is, what does matter is the searching questions we all (both on the high and in the low) need to ask - why do i not have peace inside? Why so much troubles all around?

The eternal truth is that expectations that could not be satisfied anywhere else were fulfilled through Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and by none other. It is no different today!
